Shramik Abhivrudhi Sangh (SAS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 under the Jesuits in Goa, committed to community development. With a registration number of DR/SOR/17/84.85, SAS enjoys tax-exempt status and is authorized to receive foreign contributions (FCRA No. 094440012). The organization is guided by an executive committee consisting of 6 Jesuit priests and a layman. Embodying the principles of service, love, fellowship, and empowerment, SAS strives to foster human communities rooted in justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. The organization’s mission extends to building a society that reflects these values, contributing to the betterment of individuals and communities. Through its dedicated leadership and values-driven approach, SAS works towards building human communities that strive to march towards community well-being and social justice.

Achievements of 2023

SAS played a key role in mobilizing 33,481 individuals from 118 villages to participate in MGNREGA, a program focused on public works like water conservation and rural sanitation.

(The Government of India passed the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 in September, 2005 (MGNREGA). The Act gives legal guarantee of a hundred days of wage employment in a financial year to adult members of a rural household who demand employment and are willing to do unskilled manual work. It is also known as the Employment Act. SAS motivates women and others from the villages to work under this Act and acts as link between Government and villages.)

Their efforts led to 28,399 people getting employment, contributing a massive 1,739,403 man-days of labor. The total earnings and implement rents from this amounted to Rs. 556,608,960. This significant achievement by SAS not only offered immediate financial support to these workers but also aided in long-term community development and environmental conservation through the work completed under MGNREGA.
